Citroen

“It is not the arrival that matters, it is the journey along the way.”
A french man wrote this about 400 years ago andit became a philosophy of Citroen.

Since its foundation at the beginning of the 20th century, André Citroen has been regarded as an innovative man who changed the automotive industry with many designs and also revolutionized the logistics system around the car with his ingenious commercial moves.
At the time, Maserati was 60 percent owned by Citroën, which is why many vehicles, like the SM with a six-cylinder V-engine, were made by Maserati.
The SM is a luxury sports coupe built by Citroën from July 1970 to May 1975.

The exact origin and meaning of the abbreviation SM as a model designation is unclear. The only thing that is certain is that the M stands for Maserati in reference to the technology. When the SM was presented, the C-pillars still bore the lettering Citroën-S-Maserati instead of the later SM lettering. Série Maserati. According to Olivier de Serres, however, the S comes from Sport.
In the vernacular, the SM is well-deservedly called Sa Majesté.

This offered SM shows up in beautiful authentic condition.
Yes, it is the SM of Costa Cordalis what the first papers show, that are present.

Costa Cordalis was very attached to the Citroen brand and liked to present himself at Citroen meetings and official Citroen events.

The SM left the factory in “bleu delta métallisé” (AC 640) and was professional repainted in 1987 to “vert des tropiques” (AC 525) what shows up even today in good quality and you don`t see any rust come through. In 1992 a stainless steel exhaust system was mounted, also proven by invoices, like many other invoices through the years.

This SM carries the Maserati 2.7l six-cylinder V-engine with Bosch’s D-Jetronic intake manifold injection, as Maserati was 60 percent owned by Citroën at the time. The 178 hp was the manufacturer’s highest power offering with this displacement variant.

In 1977 a replacement engine was added to the vehicle, proven with receipts with the engine no. and the indication of the mileage of 41682 km. As well lots of invoices and parts receipts from 1985.

On the driver’s door and the tailgate there are two small “paint cracks” in the clearcoat on the edges of each about 5 cm.
These were checked by a specialist (painter) with a measuring device at the time of purchase.
There are no air bubbles or rust underneath and it shows no changes in all these years.

The next TÜV would be due in May 2022, but is renewed by the owner on request before the handover gladly.

This is the story from the Owner:

It was love at first sight!

Although I had already seen and driven many SMs through my work, the charisma of this SM hit me right in the heart.
The usual perfectly harmonious lines, the fine French elegance it radiated and with this rarely seen special colouring, which looks different depending on the light, it has a special charisma that hit me right in the heart and touched me, the passionate and emotional Italian who also lives in it. That was the beginning of a particularly intimate connection.

The cognac-coloured leather upholstery underlined the elegance and ensured an all-round majestic and comfortable driving experience, whereby its fine yet rich sound, already foreshadowed the strengths of the engine and, when driving out on the motorway with its excellent road holding, even when taking the steep bend of a test track, always brought a satisfied grin to my face and, as a former vice-president of the Swiss Citroen-Maserati Club, was the adequate accompaniment to the respective meetings. Even the many kilometres to the International Meeting in Hamburg were mastered in the usual reliable manner to my great delight and wherever one stops, this vehicle triggers enthusiasm. With its special features, such as the cornering lights and the hydro-pneumatic suspension, even back in the 1970s, it bears witness to the long history of Citroen vehicles with their uniqueness and high-quality technologies. The teething troubles of the first vehicles of the 70s have already been “cured” in this vehicle built in 1974.
An extraordinary driving pleasure for people who are just as extraordinary and like to enter into passionate relationships that go to the heart. This is how many friendships with other SM drivers have developed over the years.

The prominent first owner underlines the special nature of the vehicle, as does its good and very well-maintained condition. It was always treated, driven and maintained with care. Everything necessary has always been done, which can be read and understood in the accompanying history. There is also the original letter with the data of the first registration and the prominent first owner. And an original Continental Edison radio provides the right sound in the vehicle.

The vehicle, including the chrome, is “authentic”, i.e. original and not restored or “tinkered with” and in good condition.
A corresponding valuation certificate is available.
