Ford Model A Roadster
The Roadster was the cheapest car Ford offered in its portfolio at the time.
The Roadster cost $385 in the U.S. and those built under license in Germany cost 3,750 Reichsmarks. The average annual income in the U.S. was about $600 and in Germany about 1,900 Reichsmark…. until the stock market crash on October 24, 1929.
But we don’t want to report about that here, but about this Ford Model A Roadster offered here.
It is a car made in Berlin (Westhafen), which never left Berlin.
Enjoy the video to get an impression:
This 1929 Roadster survived the 2nd World War, especially the post-war years, in Berlin with a then official trick. To escape expropriation by the victorious powers, this roadster was rebuilt as an agricultural machine and now it was allowed to serve for the preservation of agriculture in Germany.
A cargo crane was mounted at the rear and off-road capable wheels were fitted.
Why the windshield was shortened remains an unsolved mystery.
This is how the Schnaufferl Club Berlin found the roadster later in a barn.
Today, the roadster shines again in its original splendor.
The roadster was restored with great attention to detail and above all with technical expertise.
The engine still used today was manufactured in March 1929 and is possibly the original “matching numbers” engine. The engine was completely overhauled and optimized about 3 years ago, making it a reliable companion for everyday use. Also the performance was optimized, but not overdone to ensure a stability, which makes a so-called “swim along” in today’s traffic easily possible. According to the owner, the Roadster runs over 100 km/h according to GPS. All original components are preserved and will be given to the new owner.
When we drove the car, the feeling of the pre-war era comes up immediately and you also have to know a bit more to move this car than with a young used car, but we clearly notice that this Model A Roadster can drive along in traffic without any problems and can also brake. The engine starts immediately and runs silky smooth with its typical sound. Shifting is buttery smooth and the acceleration leaves us amazed.
The glass side windows are not mounted, but are present. In addition, complete side panels are also included to completely close the driver’s cab.
The roadster offered here has had an exciting history and has brought joy to its owners.
