Pontiac Le Mans

The name comes from the French city of Le Mans, the venue of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the oldest active sports car endurance race in the world, which began in 1923.

The 1975 Le Mans primarily received trim changes, including new cross-hatch grilles.
Pontiac’s Maximum Mileage System consisted of the new GM catalytic converter, which reduced emissions while improving drivability and fuel economy, a high-energy electronic ignition and extended routine maintenance intervals.
A “Radial Tuned Suspension” was available as an option, which included improved radial tires and front and rear stabilizer bars.

This offered Pontiac Le Mans Sport Coupé left the factory in 1975 with the 7.5 liter engine with 290 horsepower and the “Radial Tuned Suspension” because of the heavy 7.5liter engine.

Today it shows up with matching numbers and matching colours. Even the interieur is quite original, showing some spots of usage and an authentic patina. The original radio is not connected but a modern radio is installed in the glove compartment. A new button for the locking mechanism is included with the car. The conversion kit to electric for the windshield washer system is also included. The tüv criticized a defective tank for the wiper water, which is why the owner decided to convert to electric right away. The criticized light for the license plate has already been fixed. The TÜV inspector described this car as very solid and quite original. See the report in the pictures below.

The all over paint is good and shiny and the average paint thickness measurement showed a thickness of 160 to 410, with the driver’s door showing a thickness of between 410 and 680. As a result, the body is not held together by filler. Surface rust can be seen in the luggage compartment, but no rust through. The rear window frame was resealed in a specialist workshop, as some moisture had previously got into the boot.

Starting the engine is a real pleasure.
The engine starts immediately and runs very smoothly with the typical sound of a big block V8. You don’t hear any whining or valve rattling and the fans work as they should. The gearbox shifts cleanly and precisely and the brakes work flawlessly. The tires are not worn and the tread depth is very good.

The overall impression is of a solid US classic in technically good and visually reasonable condition.
