In August 1983, the revised version of the Golf is presented to the general public for the first time.

It is offered in 8 different variants. Among them the GTD variant.

GTD stood for: ” grand tourisme diesel ” and powered the Golf with a 70 hp turbo diesel engine.

Outwardly hardly distinguishable from the real sports models with the GTI abbreviation in the radiator grille, the top model with the D inspired the newly burgeoning self-confidence of diesel drivers at the beginning of the eighties. The days when diesel engines were compared to wandering dunes were finally a thing of the past. 161 km/h, zero to 100 in 14.9 seconds, these were no values for duels with powerful petrol engines – but sufficient performance to keep up with much larger limousines of the same drive type.

The Golf 2 GTD offered here was delivered on 30.11.1984. It has had 2 owners in its 38 years and has only been driven 29,000km.

The first owner bought the car new at the age of 63 and drove it until he was 89. The last service entry in the service book was at 22,850 km. The second owner bought the car in 2010 and put it in his dry barn in 2011.

It was recovered from the barn in the summer of 2021. To revive it, the following parts were replaced and renewed.
