The Company was founded in 1924 as a subsidiary of SKF (ball bearings) by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson.
Their nickname “swedish tank”, the Volvos of the post-war period are completely justified by their robustness. Mileages of 600,000km with unwelded, galvanized bodies are not uncommon.
From summer 1995 to the end of 1996 a revised version called 850 R was offered, which replaced the T-5R. It now featured a 16T turbocharger instead of a 15G as in the T-5R what increased the 241 horsepower up to 250 horsepower. Even the interior received adaptions.
