Fiberfab FT Bonito

The manufacturer presented the Fiberfab Bonito to the public for the first time in September 1969 at the Frankfurt IAA. The car was a formally well-designed 2+2-seater sports coupé with a flat front end, low beltline and squared-off rear end on the chassis and with the engine of the VW Beetle. In terms of appearance, the Bonito corresponded to the popular ideas of a racy sports car of the time.

Fiberfab offered the Bonito exclusively as a kit car. Only the sample cars were built ready to drive. Normally, the Bonito kits were transported by rail, in large wooden crates specially built for this purpose. However, many customers also collected their Bonito kit themselves. A VW flatbed truck or an open car trailer was sufficient for this.

According to company boss Jörgfrieder Kuhnle, Fiberfab produced more than 1000 Bonito kits during its almost ten-year construction period. According to information from the “Bonito & KitCar IG Deutschland”, there are still around 100 VW Beetles with Bonito bodies in Germany alone. However, not even half of them are still roadworthy or have a road registration.

In 1978, one year before the end of Bonito production, the kit cost 4490.00 Marks; a number of accessories, packaging and shipping costs and VAT had to be added.

This Car was bought in 2010 by the current owner and imported to Sweden. The Car was in very good condition. Nevertheless, he decided to give it a slight overhaul with new paint and upholstered Interior. To give the Car the vintage style it was painted in Silver and the Interior was done in red. The rest of the deco was done in Vinyl. The Car is powered by a 2.0l Type 4 engine producing around 100 HP.

Overall the car runs and drives and has no rust issues with a nice and straight body. though it needs some work on the electronics.
