Ein VW Kombi Transporter T3 in Dakar…

Die erste Rallye Dakar wurde am 26. Dezember 1978 in Paris gestartet und endete am 14. Januar 1979 in Dakar. Gründer der Veranstaltung war der Franzose Thierry Sabine. 

Die Rallye Paris-Dakar, auch bekannt als Rallye Dakar, ist eine jährliche Rallye, die von der Amaury Sport Organisation organisiert wird. Die Veranstaltung wurde erstmals 1979 abgehalten und beginnt in der Regel in Paris, Frankreich, und endet in Dakar, Senegal, wobei eine Strecke von rund 8.000 Meilen durch verschiedene Länder in Europa und Afrika zurückgelegt wird. Die Rallye gilt als eines der anspruchsvollsten und zermürbendsten Motorsportereignisse der Welt, bei dem die Teilnehmer ein breites Spektrum an Terrain bewältigen müssen, darunter Wüstendünen, felsige Berge und tückische Schlammpisten.

An der Rallye können sowohl Profis als auch Amateure mit einer Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen wie Motorrädern, Autos und Lastwagen teilnehmen. Die Veranstaltung ist in mehrere Etappen unterteilt, wobei die Teilnehmer sowohl Zeitprüfungen als auch Verbindungsabschnitte bewältigen müssen, bei denen sie durch die Landschaft navigieren müssen, um die nächste Etappe zu erreichen. Die Rallye ist bekannt für ihre schwierige Navigation und die rauen Wüstenbedingungen, bei denen die Teilnehmer mit extremer Hitze, Staub und mechanischen Problemen zu kämpfen haben.

Die Rallye hat im Laufe der Jahre viele legendäre Fahrer und Teams hervorgebracht und ist zu einem echten Klassiker in der Welt des Motorsports geworden.

1988 ist die Rallye zehn Jahre alt und es ist die Jubiläumsausgabe.

Alain Cerf, VW-Händler in der Region Montpellier, stellt ein überraschendes Projekt zusammen. Er möchte zwei T3 Syncro 16 Zoll KAstenwagen die Fahrzeuge sind serienmäßig mit 16 Zoll Rädern, Kastenverstärkung, größeren Bremsen und verstärktem Getriebe ausgestattet) in einem Team einstellen, einen für ihn und seinen Freund Jean-Marie Colomina sowie einen zweiten für Gérard Cabane.
Bereits 1987 hatte Alain Cerf 3 identische Fahrzeuge für die Rally gesponsert,

aber diesmal will er selber fahren.


Begleitet wird das Projekt von der Firma Oettinger, der sich um die Vorbereitung der beiden Syncro-Motoren kümmert. Oettinger arbeitet zu der Zeit eng mit VW zusammen.


Auf dem von Alain Cerf pilotierten Wagen stand auf der Fahrzeugseite “wbx 9” . Eigentlich war es aber ein 6 Zylinder mit 3,2l wassergekühlte Einspritzanlage mit knapp 160 PS und fast 180km/h in Spitzengeschwindigkeit!


Der von Hervé Cotel und Gérard Cabane pilotierte Syncro war mit nur 4 Zylindern und knapp 90 PS Seriennahe ausgestattet.
Beide Kastenwägen waren mit dem originalen 4×4 Viskokupplung System ausgestattet.

Am 1. Januar 1988 starteten die beiden Cerf Automobiles Kastenwägen von Paris mit den Nummern 372 und 520

Die Rallye Dakar 1988 (10e Rallye Paris-Alger-Dakar) war die 10. Ausgabe der Rallye Dakar. Sie begann am 1. Januar 1988 in Versailles und endete am 22. Januar 1988 in Dakar. Die Strecke führte über 12.874 km (davon 6.605 Wertungskilometer) durch Frankreich, Algerien, Niger, Mali, Mauretanien und Senegal. An der Rallye nahmen insgesamt 603 Teilnehmer – 311 PKW, 183 Motorräder und 109 LKW teil

Nachdem Rallyeinsatz kommt der Wagen zurück in das Autohaus Cerf bei Montpellier und wird dort angeblich als “Neuwagen” mit 10.000 km verkauft.

Seit 1988 ging der Wagen durch mehrere Hände, zuletzt bei einem Winzer aus Var. Mittlerweile sind alle Aufkleber verschwunden. Unter der weissen Lackschicht ist aber noch die originale Kriegsbemalung vorhanden.

Hier sind ein paar Fotos wie wir den Wagen im Sommer 2022 aus einer Scheune in Frankreich geborgen haben.

Unglaublicher Weise ist er immer noch in einem sehr guten Zustand und fast komplett. Einzig der Motor und der Überrollbügel fehlen. Die Aufnahmen für den Bügel sind noch gut zu erkennen. Die Rallyinstrumente, Zusatzbeleuchtung, Verstärkungen und Modifikationen sind noch intakt und vorhanden.

Ziel 2024

Wir sind dabei den Wagen wieder startklar zu machen um 2024 an der Dakar Rally teilzunehmen.
